How to Install Apache Ant in windows

Apache Ant is a software tool for automating software build processes. It is similar to Make but is implemented using the Java language, requires the Java platform, and is best suited to building Java projects.

The most immediately noticeable difference between Ant and Make is that Ant uses XML to describe the build process and its dependencies, whereas Make uses Makefile format. By default the XML file is named build.xml.

How to install it.

  1. Download Apache Ant From the web. You can use this url to download it  Download
  2. Extract the .zip file in to your Program Files Directory
  3. Then go to System Property(In windows 7  Right Click MyComputer->Properties->Advanced System Setings->Advanced Tab)
  4. System Property Window
  5. Click Environment Variables – > Click New and set the reqiured Home Paths

Go to user variable and add below things

  • variable name ANT_HOME
  • variable value (set your ant home directory ex: C:\Program Files\apache-ant-1.8.2)

Again new variable

  • variable name JAVA_HOME
  • variable value (set your ant home directory ex: C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.7.0)

Then go to system variables an Find path from the list box then click edit

  • add the .bin path to end of the line. ex:C:\Program Files\apache-ant-1.8.2\bin

Important : Remember friends to add semicolon to before your last line of edit variables ex:   ;C:\Program Files\apache-ant-1.8.2\bin

That’s it friends. Now you can check whether variables are set correctly or not.
